A 36-year-old Chicago woman is in custody after allegedly striking a 15-year-old bicyclist from Oswego with her vehicle early Wednesday morning and then leaving the scene of the accident.
The woman’s license was suspended at the time of the incident.
According to police, at approximately 12:07am, officers were dispatched to Route 31 and West Washington Street in Oswego for a report of a bicyclist who had been struck by a vehicle. The vehicle reportedly left the scene and was last seen traveling northbound on Route 31. Approximately 20 minutes after the crash, deputies from the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office located a vehicle matching witness descriptions in a parking lot off Harbor Drive.
Shortly after the vehicle was located, dispatch advised that a female caller was reporting that she had struck a person on a bicycle. Officers subsequently interviewed the woman as part of their investigation.
The victim was transported to Rush Copley Medical Center and later transferred to Loyola University Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. Her current condition is unknown.
Oswego Police arrested the suspect for leaving the scene of an accident and driving while license suspended. The investigation remains ongoing, and the case will be reviewed for any additional charges.
The suspect has a court date of October 6, 2026.
