Update: According to the Kane County Sheriff’s office, investigators have identified the suspect who allegedly shot three people in unincorporated Elgin over the weekend.
The 26-year-old suspect from Schaumburg reportedly admitted to firing the weapon that injured the victims following a physical altercation.
The suspect has been taken into custody and charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Armed Violence, Aggravated Battery – Strangulation, and Mob Action – all felonies.
The suspect will appear at a post-hearing today in Kane County.
Three people are in hospital with gunshot wounds after an altercation broke out at what police call a “family gathering” in unincorporated Elgin early Sunday morning.
At approximately 12:01am, Kane County Shreiff’s deputies were dispatched to 8N500 block of Gingerwood Lane in unincorporated Elgin, where a gathering that included several dozen family members and guests was in progress. Shortly before shots were fired, several family members and guests got into a physical altercation outside the residence, which then moved into the house as it continued. Shortly thereafter, shots rang out from inside the house.
Three victims suffered gunshot wounds: a 70-year-old man; a 36-year-old man; and a 21-year-olf woman. All were taken to area hospitals to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing and no suspects are in custody at this time.
