Two men were hospitalized early this morning after the vehicle they were riding in was shot at by suspects on foot near the 600 block of Sherman Avenue in Elgin.
At 3:18am today, Elgin police officers responded to the 400 block of Bowen Court for a report of a male subject who had been shot, with additional reports of shots being fired in the area of Sherman Avenue and Liberty Street. Officers arrived and located two adult males with injuries, one suffering from a gunshot wound. Both males were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Detectives from the Major Investigations Division arrived on scene and preliminary information received indicates that the two males, along with several other subjects, were in a vehicle in the 600 block of Sherman Avenue. Subsequently, an encounter occurred with unknown subjects who were walking in the area after which shots were fired at the vehicle.

This is only the 13th gunfire incident recorded in Elgin this year, down considerably from last year.
