A 19-year-old man is dead after is car collided with a semi-truck on Butterfield Road near Eola Road Thursday morning.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 6:30am a red Saturn SUV, driven by a 19-year-old man, collided with a semi-truck on Butterfield Road just east of Hedge Row Drive. A third vehicle was also involved in the crash, which resulted in significant damage to all three vehicles.

The drivers of the semi-truck and the third vehicle were transported to local hospitals by Aurora Fire Department paramedics with injuries. The driver of the Saturn was extricated from the vehicle by Aurora Fire Department personnel and transported to Rush Copley Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased at 7:32am by medical staff.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office took custody of the man at the hospital and will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

The Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances of the crash.

“Our hearts are with the family and friends of the man who lost his life in this tragic crash,” said Aurora Police Chief Matt Thomas. “We continue to investigate the factors that led to this collision and urge all drivers to remain vigilant and cautious, especially in rainy or wet weather and when traveling near large trucks. Even a moment’s lapse in attention or an unexpected change in road conditions can have devastating consequences.”

Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact the Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division at (630) 256-5330 or email tips@aurora.il.us.
