An 84-year-old Montgomery man has been detained after having admitted to the sexual abuse of children over a 15-year period.
Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser and Montgomery Chief of Police Phil Smith announced yesterday that Judge Salvatore LoPiccolo has granted the State’s motion to deny pretrial release for the suspect, who is charged with 23 counts of Criminal Sexual Assault, a Class 1 Felony, and 67 counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, Class 2 Felony.
According to prosecutors, between January 20, 2008 and July 30, 2022 the suspect, a Boy Scout leader who was involved with various youth organizations, committed sexual acts and had inappropriate contact with five victims between the ages of 13 and 17. After being arrested on Wednesday, he admitted to having sexually assaulted and abused four of those victims. He also admitted to having had contact with an additional five minors, bringing the total number of known victims to 10.
Charges related to the newly discovered victims have not yet been filed, and the investigation is still ongoing.
“These are deeply disturbing allegations, and our thoughts are with the victims and their families as they navigate the trauma of these events,” said State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser. “We take these charges very seriously and are fully committed to ensuring justice is served. If anyone has any information related to this case, we urge you to come forward. I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to the Montgomery Police Department for their diligent and thorough work on this investigation. Their efforts have been critical in addressing this situation, and we will continue working together to support the victims and pursue justice.”

The suspect’s next court date is set for 9:00am on Friday, March 7 in courtroom 319 of the Kane County Judicial Center. According to Illinois law, he is being detained in the Kane County Jail while his case is pending.
