A 54-year-old Naperville man is dead after being struck by a vehicle on Route 59 in Aurora Tuesday morning.
At approximately 8:46am Tuesday, the Aurora Police Department and Aurora Fire Department responded to a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash at the intersection of North Illinois Route 59 and Fox Valley Entrance 1. The crash involved a black 2018 Infiniti Q50 that struck a 54-year-old male pedestrian.
Officers found the victim, later identified as Derrick Davis, a resident of the 2500 block of Arcadia Circle in Naperville, in the middle through-lane of Illinois Route 59 suffering from serious injuries. The Infiniti had stopped at the scene. Aurora Fire Department personnel transported Davis to Rush Copley Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased at 9:59am.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the Infiniti was traveling northbound in the middle through-lane of Route 59 when Davis attempted to cross eastbound and entered the vehicle’s path. The driver attempted to stop but was unable to avoid the collision.
The Kane County Coroner’s Office has taken custody of the deceased and will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
“Our hearts go out to Mr. Davis’s family and friends as they navigate this heartbreaking loss,” said Aurora Police Chief Keith Cross. “Incidents like this remind us all of the unpredictability of our roadways and the need for care and caution as we travel through our community.”
The crash remains under investigation by the Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact (630) 256-5330 or email [email protected].
