A 26-year-old Elgin man has been charged with Attempted First Degree Murder and other charges in connection with a shooting earlier this month that sent one man to the hospital.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office charged the suspect with Attempted First Degree Murder (a Class M Felony); Aggravated Battery with a Firearm (a Class X Felony); Possession of a Firearm by a street gang member (a Class 2 Felony); Possession of a Firearm while on parole (a Class 2 Felony); Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 2 Felony); and Aggravated Battery causing great bodily harm (a Class 3 felony).

At 1:46pm on Tuesday, November 12, Elgin police officers responded to the 400 block of Douglas Avenue where they located an adult male with a gunshot wound who was subsequently transported to a local hospital.

The investigation of the incident by detectives from the Major Investigations Division led to a large police presence at a residence in the 300 block of Silver Street, where the accused was taken into custody.

Anyone having information that may assist in the investigation of this incident is asked to call 847-289-2600 or, to text a tip, send a message to 847411 and include “ELGINPD” in the beginning of the text, along with the message and/or tip information.
