A 29-year-old homeless man is in custody after being arrested for allegedly stabbing a woman in a vehicle on South Batavia Avenue Friday evening.

At approximately 6:17pm Friday, Batavia police were summoned to the 1000 block of South Batavia Avenue where they observed a vehicle stopped in the roadway and a male subject standing outside of the driver’s side door. In the driver’s seat of the vehicle officers found a 29-year-old female with an apparent stab wound to her torso. After paramedics arrived on scene, the victim was evaluated and subsequently transported to a local hospital, where she is reported to be in stable condition.

During the investigation, both individuals located with the vehicle upon the arrival of officers, indicated they were the only people who had been in the vehicle during the incident. With the assistance of a Kane County Sherriff’s Office K-9 unit, a knife, believed to have been used in the incident, was located in the leaves and trees near where the vehicle was parked.

The suspect, who is currently in custody at the Kane County Jail, has been charged with the following crimes:
