Batavia police are investigating an incident at Prairie Lathem Park in Batavia on Friday wherein an unidentified man beckoned to two elementary-school-aged children and offered them candy.

At approximately 6:42pm Friday, Batavia Police Officers were made aware of a suspicious incident that occurred earlier in the day at Prairie Lathem Park located at 601 North Prairie Street.

Two elementary school-aged children reported that they were playing at the park near the southeast side of Louise White School earlier that day at approximately 4:45pm – 5:15pm when they heard a voice calling from a cluster of trees on the east side of the school. They walked towards the voice and discovered a man calling to them and offering free candy.

The children described the subject as a possibly white, older male, wearing all black with a black hooded sweatshirt. The children reported the man was under an orange blanket. The children left the scene and reported the incident to their parents. As the children were leaving, they observed a black sedan leaving the parking lot of Louise White School. The children were unable to provide any additional identifying information about the vehicle.

Batavia Police are continuing to investigate this incident and are requesting that anyone with information on this event, including eyewitness accounts or surveillance video, to contact Batavia P.D. Investigations at 630-454-2500.
