The City of Elgin is well on it’s way to a record year for gunfire incidents after another arrest for firearms violations this week.
On Monday at 5:21pm, Elgin police officers responded to the 400 block of Addison Street having received reports of a dispute involving shots fired. Investigators discovered two firearms and an airsoft gun and, after interviewing multiple subjects, confirmed that shots were fired during the incident.
No injuries were reported..
The 45-year-old subject who resides at the address was taken into custody without incident and the case was reviewed by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office. He is charged with Two counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class 1 felony), and Two counts of Possession of a Firearm-No FOID (Class 3 felony).
The subject was transported to the Kane County Jail on Tuesday for a pre-trial detention hearing where the Judge ordered him to be detained pending a future court date.
The incident was the 50th this year, putting the city on course for over 70 for the full year. The previous record is 66 in 2021.
