Update: The Kane County Sheriff’s Office has provided further details about the head-on collision this morning in Hampshire Township.

The injured deputy is 33-year-old Brian Anderson, a sworn Kane County Sheriff’s deputy. Anderson remains in stable but critical condition at Good Samaritan Hospital with multiple leg fractures. He has been a KCSO deputy for ten months.

The driver of the pickup truck, Indalecio Munoz of Marseilles, Illinois, was conveyed along with two other occupants of the pickup truck to Ascension St. Joseph’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Illinois State Police are handling the investigation to see if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash and if potential charges may be forthcoming.

A Kane County Sheriff’s Deputy is in critical condition after his squad car was hit head-on by a pickup truck pulling a trailer.

According to a KCSO press release, at approximately 6:56am this morning, an on-duty Kane County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in a severe crash on Illinois Route 47, just south of Plank Road in Hampshire Township. Upon initial investigation, the collision involved two vehicles: a Kane County Sheriff’s Office squad and a Dodge Ram pickup truck towing a loaded trailer.

The pickup was heading northbound on Illinois Route 47 when it attempted to stop in traffic. It then came into oncoming traffic, striking the southbound Kane County Sheriff’s Office squad head-on.

Injuries to the deputy were sufficiently severe that a helicopter was asked to assist at the scene for immediate medical attention along with responding local fire departments. The deputy was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital and listed in critical condition.

There are also reports of the three occupants in the Dually Dodge Ram pickup truck. It is confirmed that at least one individual from the pickup truck has been transported to Ascension St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment regarding unknown injuries.

The identities of those involved have not been released.
