At approximately 3pm in the afternoon on August 18, 2022, 19-year-old St. Charles resident Kevin White had his life taken from him in tragic car crash.
White was a passenger in a vehicle traveling northbound on Randall Road through the intersection of Red Gate Road when another vehicle turned left onto eastbound Red Gate in front of it, causing a collision in the intersection.
White and the young man driving his vehicle, 20-year-old Mason Koffenberger, were transported to Delnor Hospital with serious injuries. White died of his injuries that evening.
Today, a seed of hope arising from that terrible event was planted with the announcement of the Kevin White Foundation, a charitable organization “dedicated to supporting up-and-coming baseball players through scholarships, education, and fundraising.”
White was a graduate of St. Charles North High School, and a standout varsity baseball player as an infielder and a pitcher. He was an all-conference DuKane Conference infielder in 2021 and a PG Pre-Season All-American And All Region selection.
“Most importantly, he was a teammate, a friend, and an all-around compassionate person. Kevin was known as the ‘glue guy,’ bringing people together in the dugout and day-to-day,” according the the Foundation’s website.
From the announcement:
“Kevin was a remarkable individual who has left an indelible mark in the world of baseball. Kevin was a driven and inspiring varsity baseball player with a genuine passion for the game. He showed immense dedication and perseverance, constantly pushing himself to excel on the field.
“Not only was Kevin an exceptional athlete, but he was also a role model for his teammates and fellow athletes. His positive attitude and infectious enthusiasm inspired those around him to work harder and never give up on their dreams.
“While Kevin’s life was tragically cut short, his legacy lives on through the Kevin White Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting up-and-coming baseball players through scholarships, education, and fundraising. The foundation is a testament to Kevin’s unwavering spirit and commitment to the sport he loved.”
