UAC and The Hemmens Cultural Center have announced that they will continue their partnership to present the 2023 summer production of Fame.
Fame tells a bittersweet, yet ultimately inspiring story of a group of vibrant, multicultural, energetic artists who gather to audition and study at the sought after New York City’s High School of Performing Arts. The journey this diverse group of students take as they commit to four years of grueling artistic and academic work unfolds through music, candor, humor, and insight as the show explores issues that confront many young people today.
With the Academy Award-winning title song, and a host of other fantastic hits, this high-octane musical will keep you immersed, entertained, and wanting to get up and dance.
In keeping with the show’s intended cast, the producers are seeking a diverse cast that can showcase their dancing, singing, rapping, and musicianship. Auditions are open to the public and will be held in May, 2023 at The Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way in Elgin. Callbacks will be by invitation only.
All those auditioning should wear comfortable clothing and shoes for the dance portion and prepare to sing 16 to 32 bars of a song that best highlights their vocal ability. An accompanist will be provided, so auditionees must bring sheet music in the key they will be singing. Singing acapella is not encouraged.
