A Genoa man who has been missing since he last contacted family members by phone at 6:30pm on Friday, February 24, has been found dead in Carroll Park in Genoa.
According to a Genoa Police Department press release, the body of Daniel Elkinton, 41, who had been reported missing by his family on Monday, February 27 after having not been heard from since the previous Friday, was found Saturday morning near the Kishwaukee River approximately 100 feet south of a pedestrian bridge in Carroll Park.
The body was first spotted by a team searching the area with a drone. This was after days of searches involving multiple law enforcement agencies, K9 units, Illinois Conservation Police, trained bloodhounds and countless volunteers.
The circumstances of Elkinton’s demise remain unknown. A medical examination was scheduled for yesterday, and the investigation is pending the results therefrom. Anyone having information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Genoa Police at 815-784-2526.
