Elgin schools are being provided extra surveillance by the Elgin Police Department after a bomb threat was called in to the EPD’s tip line this morning.
According to a police posting on social media, at 8:14am the EPD received a school threat on its 411 tip line advising of a bomb threat to Elgin area schools. There was no other specific information that was provided in regard to the threat.
School Resource Officers are aware of the incident and EPD has been in communication with U46 and District 301 officials. Out of an abundance of caution, extra surveillance will be provided at the schools for the remainder of the day.
While the threat is being investigated, at this time it is not believed to be substantiated. A similar statewide hoax occurred over the past few days targeting Illinois schools, which proved to be unfounded.
No further information is available at this time.
