The Elgin Police Department is warning local businesses about a string of “smash-and-grab” commercial burglaries that occurred in the early morning hours of Monday.
According to a Facebook post by the department, between 1am and 2am Monday police responded to 6 active burglar alarms along McLean Blvd and Dundee Avenue. All involved shattered windows and various stolen merchandise.

The department advises businesses to ensure security systems are functioning properly and, given the brief nature of the crimes, to ensure cash and other high-value assets are locked up and out-of-sight.
