Highlighting the ongoing dedication of his investigative teams, Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain recently shared statistics with Kane County Board members, drawing attention to the significant amount of cash, drug, weapon and vehicle seizures in 2022, including an increase in the quantity of fentanyl confiscated.
“This is a snapshot of the great work that our drug team does,” said Sheriff Hain. “Getting 32 kilograms of fentanyl off our streets is just outstanding.”
In total, the Special Investigations Unit of the Kane County Sheriff’s Office reported the following statistics:
- $4,150,132 in cash seizures
- $300,000 in proceeds
- 1,629 kilograms of cocaine
- 32 kilograms of fentanyl
- 6 kilograms of methamphetamine
- 2 kilograms of heroin
- 14 assault weapons/pistols
- 17 arrests
- 6 vehicles
- 1 airplane
The plane was seized in collboration with other agencies after arriving with 100 kilograms of cocaine from Mexico.
Hain said that the amount of cash seized is first sent to the U.S. Department of Justice Office in Washington, D.C. where it is then decided how it will be dispersed.
“We get anywhere from 80% of that down to 5% to 20% of that depending on if our deputies were assisted by other agencies in the seizure.”
Once returned, the money is then kept in the KCSO Asset Forfeiture Fund which is used to reduce the Sheriff Office’s overall expenses.
“In the last four years, the Sheriff has returned over $1 million to the (County’s) General Fund each and every year,” said County Board member Bill Lenert.
