While high winds yesterday may have delayed work a bit, the process of erecting the largest movie screen in Illinois has begun in Batavia.

Emagine Entertainment, a manager of luxury theatres around the US, had planned to install trusses yesterday, beginning the erection of what will be the largest movie theatre screen in Illinois, the Super EMX auditorium, at the Emagine Batavia theatre located at 550 Randall Rd. in Batavia. The venue, formally the Randall 15 IMAX, was purchased by Emagine back in the Spring of 2020 along with theatres in Saginaw, MI, Noblesville, IN and Portage, IN. The building is currently being renovated and will be completely transformed into a luxurious, upscale movie theatre.

The Super EMX will surpass Emagine’s 92 foot (width) behemoth in Novi, Michigan.

Measuring over 96 feet wide, Emagine’s Super EMX is expected to be a spectacular theatre in which to experience Hollywood’s “tent pole” films.  The 4K laser-projected image will be paired with a Dolby Atmos® immersive sound system with 70 channels of sound to create the most remarkable moviegoing experience in the marketplace today. Additionally, the Emagine Batavia theatre will include 2 private screening rooms and 12 auditoriums, all equipped with 4k projections and featuring luxury heated recliners and cuddle chairs. Completed renovations are slated for June.

Headquartered in Troy, MI, Emagine operates 28 theatres in five states and is the 9th largest theatre chain in the United States.
