Sunday marked the birthday of World War II veteran Ray Moore who was honored with his own holiday in the City of Aurora.
Born on February 12, 1923, in Aurora, Ray Moore celebrated his milestone 100th birthday with family, friends, and fans. Mayor Irvin issued a proclamation designating February 12 as ‘Ray Moore Day’ in his hometown. The declaration was presented to Mr. Moore during the celebration by Deputy Mayor Memo Trujillo.
In 1942, Moore enlisted in the United States Air Force. After his tour of duty in World War II where he flew 29 strategic missions, he returned home to Aurora and began a 40-year career with the Burlington Railroad. He and his wife, Dolores, raised four children in their eastside home.
Moore still drives, takes care of his property, and regularly works out. He credits his exercise routine as a key to longevity.
When asked today if he had any more secrets to a long life, he replied, “Yes, always look both ways before you cross the street.”
