A 45-year-old Geneva man was arrested Thursday evening and charged with numerous felonies, including attempted murder, after allegedly attempting to strangle his girlfriend.
The accused was charged with:
- Attempted Murder – First Degree – Intent to cause death or great bodily harm, Class X felony;
- Aggravated Domestic Battery – with Strangulation, Class 2 felony;
- Domestic Battery – Prior Convictions, Class 4 felony; and
- Domestic Battery – Causing Bodily Harm in combination with Prior Convictions, Class 4 felony.
Geneva Police responded to the accused’s residence in the 100 block of Syril Avene in Geneva at 6:40 p.m., Dec. 22, related to a domestic disturbance called in by another household member. Upon arrival, officers learned the accused and his girlfriend were involved in a verbal altercation that became physical. During the physical altercation, the accused allegedly pinned his girlfriend down and placed his hands around her neck on two separate occasions. She was able to break free only after getting ahold of scissors and stabbing his arm.
Interviews with another household member and the original caller, in conjunction with physical evidence on the scene, confirmed the victim’s account of what occurred.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office was briefed about the case and authorized the charges against the accused, who is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Dec. 23.
