According to an obituary sent to the Kane County Chronicle by their mother and subsequently reported by that publication, funeral arrangements have been set for Grace (20) and Emil (19) Diewald, the two victims of a deadly crash involving a school bus in unincorporated Campton Hills last Monday.

The celebration of life for Grace and Emil will be held from 4-7pm Friday, Nov. 11 at the Lord of Life Church, 40W605 Route 38, Elburn, with a memorial service for both at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at the same location.

A GoFundMe page has been established on behalf of the Diewald family.

At approximately 3:45pm Monday afternoon, Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies and Campton Hills Police were dispatched to Empire Road near the intersection of Kings Wood Drive in unincorporated Campton Township for a report of an accident involving a school bus with injuries.

The investigation indicated that a 2013 Lexus SUV was traveling east on Empire Road and struck the rear of school bus with 31 students and one driver on the school bus.  The school bus was from Burlington School District #301 with students from Lilly Lake Elementary.

No students were injured and all were reunited with parents and released at the scene. The bus was in the process of stopping to drop off a student at the time of the crash.

Grace and Emil were passengers in the Lexus and were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger were transported to Delnor Hospital, one with life-threatening injuries. The 68-year-old school bus driver was uninjured.
