In the early morning hours of March 23, 29-year-old Alexander Authement got into an argument with his pregnant girlfriend – an argument which ended with him punching her in the face, pushing her to the ground and savagely kicking her.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced yesterday that Authement has been sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections – one year less than the maximum allowable under the law.

“Domestic abuse has no place in a civilized society,” Berlin said. “Unfortunately, we continue to see violent attacks such as this across the country. In DuPage County however, we have no tolerance for this type of violent behavior and will use every tool available to protect victims of domestic violence and hold their attackers responsible.”

At around 12:43am on March 23, Authement and his girlfriend, who was six months pregnant at the time, were involved in a verbal altercation. The verbal altercation turned physical, however, when Authement punched his girlfriend in the face, pushed her to the ground and began kicking her. To stop the beating, other members of the family had to physically pull Authement away from his girlfriend.

Officers with the Aurora Police Department responded to the home and Authement was taken into custody several hours later as he had fled the scene. The victim was treated and assessed by medics at the scene. The baby was unharmed from the incident.

On September 9, 2022, following a bench trial, Judge Reidy found Authement guilty of four counts of Aggravated Battery – Pregnant victim (Class 3 Felony) and four counts of Domestic Battery (Class 4 Felony). At the time of the offense, Authement was on probation for Domestic Battery out of Kane County. Authement has been held in custody at the DuPage County Jail since his arrest.
