On the morning of September 29, a 17-year-old girl freed herself from an attempted abduction near Channing Park and St. Mary’s Catholic School in Elgin.
According to police, at around 9:43am on that date a male Hispanic subject in a vehicle was reported following a 17-year-old female student in the area of South Channing Street and Fulton Street. Preliminary information indicated that a male Hispanic subject was attempting to speak with the student who continued to walk away from the subject.
At some point the male subject exited his vehicle and grabbed the female student’s arm. The student was able to pull away and immediately reported the incident. The student was not injured.
After an investigation, police have identified a 32-year-old Elgin man as the perpetrator in the incident.
Elgin police arrested the man and he has been charged with Attempted Kidnapping, a Class 3 felony.
The suspect appeared in Kane County bond call this weekend where the Judge set his bond at $70,000 (10% to apply).
