A Lombard man is dead after driving his vehicle into a utility pole while trying elude Glen Ellyn police.
According to a release by the Glen Ellyn Police Department, on Friday evening at approximately 9pm, a Glen Ellyn police officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop after witnessing a traffic violation near the intersection of Main Street and Geneva Avenue.
The driver of the vehicle, Mario M. Rouse of Lombard, failed to yield and rapidly proceeded south on Main Street. Near the intersection of Main Street and Hawthorne Boulevard, Rouse’s vehicle left the road and hit a utility pole and a tree, severely injuring Rouse.
Officers immediately attempted to render aid, and Rouse was transported to a nearby hospital where he was he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:30pm.
No one else was injured during the incident.
The DuPage County M.E.R.I.T. accident investigation team, Glen Ellyn Police Department and DuPage County Coroner continue to investigate the incident.
