A 39-year-old man driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck struck and killed a horse on Route 47 in Plato Township late last night, according to a report from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.
The truck wound up off the roadway and the driver, a resident of Hampshire, was medevac’d to Lutheran General Hospital with serious injuries.
At approximately 12:40am, a Kane County Sheriff’s Deputy was driving south on Illinois Route 47 near the intersection of Rohrsen Road when the Deputy observed a large deceased horse in the roadway. The deputy then located a Dodge Ramm pickup truck off the roadway near the horse. According to the report, it appeared that the vehicle struck the horse then left the roadway after the impact.
Deputies spoke with the horse’s owner who was actively out searching for the horse. The owner felt that the horse was suffering from a medical issue and had broken out of the stable prior to the crash.
Kane County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Kane County Drone Team, Pingree Grove Fire/EMS, Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Kane County Office of Emergency Management and LifeNet.
At this time, the investigation is on-going no tickets have been issued.
