A Naperville woman who was an attendee of the ill-fated “Stop the Steal” rally in Washington, DC, on January 6, 2021, has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge in relation to the violent breech of the Capitol that day.
Dawn Frankowski, 54, pleaded guilty to “Parading, Demonstrating or Picketing in a Capitol Building,” according to federal court filings in the US District Court of Washington, DC.
Her travelling mate to the rally and co-defendant in the charges , David Wiersma of south suburban Posen, Illinois, had pleaded guilty to the identical charges the day before.
The pair had originally been charged with four violations – Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds, Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds, Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building, and Parading, Demonstrating or Picketing in a Capitol Building.
According to court records, the pair had travelled to Washington, DC, to attend the rally and “support my President.” After the Capitol building had been breeched, both entered and walked through it, visiting at least 2 offices and taking a photo of the famous “Crypt,” a circular room in the middle of the Capitol building.
Neither was implicated in any violence.
Frankowski and Wiersma both face a maximum of six months in prison, and have agreed to pay $500 each as their part of restitution for the damage done to the Capitol Building.
Frankowski will be sentenced on November 30, Wiersma on November 29.
