An early-morning car theft in Elgin Township led to a car crash and a five-jurisdiction search for multiple juveniles suspected in the crime.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 1000 block of Woodcliff Drive in Unincorporated Elgin Township for a report of a stolen black BMW.  A deputy located the BMW traveling south on Route 31 (S. La Fox Street) and notified other responding units.  A second vehicle, possibly a chase vehicle identified as a white BMW, was also in the area with the black BMW.

Deputies observed that the black BMW turned onto McLean Boulevard where it crashed into a white BMW in the area of Stearns Road and McLean Boulevard. The white BMW then struck a 2nd vehicle that was at the intersection of McLean Boulevard at Stearns Road.  Deputies then observed five (5) subjects exit the vehicles and flee on foot from the area.

Inside of the black BMW was an Audi key that belonged to an additional stolen vehicle that was located on River Valley Drive near Woodcliff Dr.

South Elgin Police, St. Charles Police, Bartlett Police, Campton Hills Police and Kane County Sheriff’s Office set up a perimeter where six (6) juvenile subjects were taken into custody. Due to injuries sustained from the crash and subsequently fleeing the scene on foot through heavy brush, 3 of the juveniles were transported to St Joseph’s Hospital with minor injuries, and were treated and released.

According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, criminal charges have been approved against the suspects.

One of the juveniles, 15 years old, has been charged with Juvenile Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Reckless Driving, No Valid DL, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Possession of Cannabis, and several traffic citations.

The other five Juveniles, with ages ranging from 14-16, were charged with Criminal Trespass to Motor Vehicle.
