An Aurora man was shot and killed during a family dispute overnight.

Just after 1:40 a.m., Aurora’s 911 Telecommunications Center received a call of a person shot inside a home in the 1800 block of West Illinois Avenue. Officers found a man in the basement suffering from a gunshot wound. Aurora Fire paramedics transported the man to an area hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts by paramedics and emergency room staff, the man was pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation has determined that two family members were arguing when the suspect fired a gun, striking the victim.

Detectives and Evidence Technicians from the Aurora Police Department’s Bureau of Investigations continue to investigate the specific circumstances of the incident, and officers and detectives have conducted a canvass of the neighborhood to collect potential information from neighbors to assist with the investigation.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office responded to the hospital to take possession of the body and will schedule an autopsy in the coming days to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

If you have any information, video from video doorbells or security cameras, or any other information that can assist with the investigation, please get in touch with the Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000; or online: aurora-il.org/CrimeTip; or via Mobile App: P3 Tips app on iOS or Android.
