Two people were wounded by gunfire in an incident early this morning in Elgin and, in an apparently separate incident, an Elgin man came home Friday after a week away to find his house damaged by bullets.
This morning, at approximately 12:30 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Tennyson Ct. in the Elgin Historical district to find two adult subjects with non-life threatening injuries reported from a shooting incident. The shooting incident reportedly occurred previously in the 300 block of Willard Avenue, near Prairie Park. Evidence of gunfire was located on Willard.
On Friday, a resident, also from the 100 block of Tennyson Ct.., who had been away for approximately one week reported to the Elgin Police Department that their property was damaged by gunfire. Officers confirmed that the damage was in fact caused by gunfire. There were no calls of shots fired in that area during the time frame given.
Police have not as yet announced a direct correlation between the two incidents.
These incidents represent the 30th and 31st gunfire incidents in Elgin this year. The city is running at a pace slightly below that of 2021, which saw a record-setting 66 such incidents.
