The City of St. Charles just issued the following statement:

    “FIREWORKS CANCELLED

“The St. Charles Park District in cooperation with the City of St. Charles has decided to cancel the 4th of July festivities including the concert and firework display out of an abundance of caution for everyone’s safety. Our thoughts are with the Highland Park community after the tragedy that occurred this morning.

“Currently conversations are taking place on a rescheduled show. Please refer to the Park District’s website for additional updates as they become available for that opportunity.”

In light of weather concerns and the tragedy in Highland Park this morning, the City of Elgin has cancelled its fireworks display. The city indicated that it will be rescheduled to a later time this summer.

As of 3:50pm, displays in Aurora, St. Charles, Naperville and Oswego are continuing as scheduled. The City of Aurora issued a statement indicating that heightened security measures will be enacted for this evening’s activities.

“APD has enhanced security details for this evening in response to the unfortunate tragedy in Highland Park. We extend our deepest condolences and have offered any necessary assistance to the Highland Park community.”

No announcements indicating cancellations have been forthcoming from the other municipalities.
