State Senator Darren Bailey of downstate Xenia is projected to win the Republican primary for Governor, earning the right to face incumbent JB Pritzker in the general election in November.
With 57% of precincts reporting, Bailey has an almost 130,000 vote margin over venture capitalist Jesse Sullivan and Richard Irvin, Mayor of Aurora. Bailey is carrying almost 55% of the total vote.
Bailey was assisted in his bid by financial backing of Richard Uihlein, founder of the privately held Uline office supply business, and unexpected sources – JB Pritzker and the Democratic Party, who spent tens of millions of dollars on negative ads targeting Bailey’s presumed chief rival, Irvin.
Here is Fox Valley Magazine’s exclusive recent interview with State Senator Bailey. Please note that Senator Bailey spoke to us while on his 102-county bus tour of Illinois, and, consequently, the audio was compromised. It improves as the interview goes on.
