The National Weather Service in Chicago is warning of dangerous heat and humidity coming our way Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
The combination of temperatures in the upper 90s and extreme humidity will result in heat indices well over 100 degrees, with the most oppressive heat peaking Tuesday evening.
Severe thunderstorms are also possible in the afternoons beginning today and lasting through Wednesday.
NWS reminds residents to strictly limit strenuous outdoor activities and sun exposure during time of extreme heat, and to never leave pets or children in unattended vehicles.
Relief will come Thursday and Friday as a cold front passes through the area, dropping temperatures into the 80s by Friday and reducing humidity significantly.
