Earlier this month, it appeared that Elgin’s wildly popular Halloween celebration, A Nightmare On Chicago Street, was doomed.
The Elgin City Council had taken the recommendation of the city’s Special Events staff and cancelled this year’s event due primarily to the fiscal and logistical challenges presented by the current economic climate.
But last night, the celebration got a reprieve.
After significant backlash from local businesses and disappointed citizens, the City Council reversed its decision. The show will go on.
To cheers, the Council voted 6-2 in favor of reinstating the event, which will cost roughly $500,000 to produce.
The Facebook page for the event took little time to celebrate:
Happy Halloween, everybody!
