A Shred of Hope Remains For One
Two iconic Fox Valley holiday traditions appear to be on the way out for 2022.
Earlier this month, the Elgin City Council voted to discontinue “A Nightmare on Chicago Street,” its signature Halloween downtown extravaganza.
And last week, Mooseheart announced that it was cancelling its annual Christmas lights show, a mainstay in the Fox Valley for over a decade.
Some hope appeared to remain for Elgin’s Halloween tradition, as after some backlash against its decision surfaced, it has apparently agreed to have another vote on the matter.
Mooseheart’s decision, on the other hand, appears to be final.
Executive Director Gary Urwiler said in a news release that it had become too difficult to produce the show, and in light of the expansion of competing shows in the area, the effort was just too much.
Mooseheart’s property-wide light show once produced 20,000 visitors per season, according to its 2021 Christmas releases.
Mooseheart has indicated that it will focus on a seasonal 5k run and breakfast with Santa to replace the lights show.
