Between October 2015 and June 2016, Jacob Headtke of Elgin sexually abused a child younger than 13 years old, and one who was familiar to him. Headtke also attempted to abuse a second child he knew.
Yesterday, the 32-year-old Headtke was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections for aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony, and 3 years for attempted aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 3 felony.
However, since the sentences are to be served concurrently, the most jail time Headtke could face is 5 years.
“The victims in this case bravely came forward years ago to stop the defendant from hurting other children,” stated Assistant Kane County State’s Attorney David Belshan after the sentencing. “They persevered through a lengthy legal process, faced their abuser in court and testified about how he sexually abused them.”
“Justice has been served and the defendant will now serve prison time for his vile and criminal acts. My thanks to the victims and their family for their courage and perseverance. This successful prosecution would not have been possible without ASA Flannagan and the teamwork of the Kane County Child Advocacy Center, victim advocate Julie Pohlman and Investigator Tim Bosshart.”
According to Illinois law, Headtke is eligible for day-for-day sentencing. He receives credit for 258 days in the Kane County jail.
In addition to the prison term, Headtke must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
