Two people are dead and four injured after a six-vehicle pileup on Kirk Road in Batavia this afternoon.
According to a police press release, a total six vehicles were involved in the crash that occurred early this afternoon, including a tractor semi-trailer, an additional tractor pulling a fuel tank, and four passenger cars.
No hazardous materials leaked from the fuel truck as a result of this crash and no HAZMAT response was required.
Preliminary investigation indicates that while attempting a lane change, one of the passenger cars struck the semi-trailer causing the passenger car to cross over into oncoming traffic, ultimately coming to rest on the roof of the vehicle, killing both passengers.
In addition to the deceased, two occupants of another passenger car, a female and young child, were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. None of the other involved vehicle occupants required medical attention as a result of the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and no citations have been issued at this time. The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation of this case, which remains an open and active investigation.
Anyone with any information about this crash is asked to contact the Batavia Police Department. Any further media inquiries should be directed to Detective Sergeant Gary La Barbera or Deputy Chief Eric Blowers at (630) 454-2500.
