The timing could have been better for gubernatorial candidate and current Aurora mayor Richard Irvin.
Irvin’s campaign began airing ads recently touting the mayor’s success in beating back crime in the city. Just as those ads hit the airwaves, Aurora suffered three separate shooting incidents overnight, two of which involved injuries requiring hospitalization.
Just before midnight Sunday evening, police responded to two shooting incidents. The first involved what appears to be a drive-by shooting at the intersection of Inverness Drive and McCoy Drive. According to the APD, a vehicle pulled up next to another vehicle and fired shots.
No one was injured and the police believe it to be a targeted incident.
The second shooting occurred at around the same time, when a person was shot in the 1000 block of Symphony Drive.
The victim was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive. APD believes that this incident was not related to the shooting near McCoy Drive and Inverness Drive.
About an hour later, in the early morning hours of Monday, officers arrived on the scene of a person shot in the 200 block of East Galena Blvd.
The male victim was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive. This shooting is believed to be a targeted shooting and, again, unrelated to the other incidents on Sunday evening.
All of these incident remain under investigation. If you have any information or video, please call APD’s Investigations Division at 630-256-5500 or email [email protected]
