Elgin police had a busy weekend with three separate gun-related incidents on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday evening, two separate gunshot incidents happened approximately 90 minutes apart in different areas in Elgin.

At 9:50pm Friday evening, officers responded to the 700 block of Murray Avenue for a report of shots fired. Then, at about 11:20pm, another gunfire incident was reported near Elgin High School.

In both cases, officers investigated and discovered evidence of shots fired but no injuries or property damage.

On Saturday morning, a large police presence was required in the area of Larkin/Edison/Highland due to a report of a subject with a weapon. After an extensive operation, the subject was located and taken into custody without incident.

The gunfire incidents on Friday were the 10th and 11th this year. In 2021, Elgin set a new record for such incidents with 66 being recorded during the year.

These incidents remain under investigation. If you have information that may assist, please call 847-289-2600 or to text a tip, send a message to 847411.
