Update: 12:53pm – The St. Charles Police have confirmed a shooting inside an apartment in the 1700 block of Covington Court in St. Charles.
Officers arrived at the scene and found a 24-year-old female with two apparent gunshot wounds. Officers also learned that a possible offender had left the apartment just prior to their arrival.
With the assistance of Geneva Police Department and the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, St. Charles Police immediately set up a perimeter of the surrounding area. Within 30 minutes a 17-year-old male was located and taken in to police custody without incident.
The female victim was treated and transported by St. Charles Fire Department paramedics to Northwestern-Delnor Hospital where she is in stable condition.
Authorities believe that this incident was isolated to one apartment and that all parties involved were familiar with one another. There is no reason to believe that the general public is any danger.
UPDATE: 8:56AM – The St. Charles Police Department has issued a statement announcing that a suspect is in custody related to the incident this morning and that “there is no threat to the general public.”
Police are still on-scene continuing their investigation.

According to a notice on the St. Charles police website, police are actively investigating criminal activity in the area of 14th and Prairie.
Out of an abundance of caution, nearby schools have been put on lock-down.
Numerous social media posts indicated hearing shots fired in the area.
