Naperville School District 203 and Indian Prairie School District 204 have both decided to maintain their masking requirements despite the temporary restraining order issued by a Sangamon county judge Friday.

Both districts announced their decision Sunday evening.

“Naperville 203 will continue to implement the same layered mitigation strategies, per the guidance of the national (CDC), state (IDPH), and local (DCHD) health departments, that have allowed us to successfully navigate through the school year,” according to a District 203 statement from Superintendent Dan Bridges and the school board.

“The district will continue to follow and implement its safe return to school plan,” Indian Prairie Superintendent Adrian Talley said in statement, adding that the temporary restraining order may be quickly reversed on appeal.

The decisions follow a Friday ruling from a Sangamon County judge issuing a temporary restraining order on the Governor’s mask mandate for schools, arguing that such a mandate violates due process protections.

Governor JB Pritzker has announced that he will seek an “expedited appeal” to reverse the judge’s opinion.
