In the space of a few hours earlier this month, the Illinois State Police (ISP) issued citations or made arrests for traffic-related violations 10 times at a roadside safety check (RSC) at Illinois Route 31 just south of Middle Road in Elgin.
According to an ISP press release, this included 1 DUI and 3 other alcohol or drug-related offenses.
The other offenses were primarily registration or license-related.
Two written warnings were also issued.
The RSC was conducted from late night November 12 to early morning November 13 and was funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Alcohol and drug impairment is involved in more than 30 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois, according to the ISP, and throughout the US, more than 10,000 people die each year from alcohol or drug impairment crashes.
