Anastasio Rodriguez, a 47 year-old Plainfield man, was found guilty of sexually abusing a girl younger than 13.
Kane County Judge Donald M. Tegeler, Jr., convicted Rodriguez of the offense of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Class 2 felony. Rodriguez waived his right to a jury trial.
Rodriguez remains free on $10,000 bond.
Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Stacey Wittman and Jessica Michels presented evidence during the trial that in December 2011 Rodriguez sexually abused the victim, whom he knew. The victim was younger than 13 years old.
“The victim in this case showed courage in testifying against her abuser about a crime that occurred nearly 10 years ago,” said Wittman after the verdict was pronounced. “I want to thank our advocate from the Child Advocacy Center, Cindy Barrett, for all of her work in assisting with the trial and trial preparation.”
Judge Tegeler set Rodriguez’s next court appearance for 1:30 p.m. Nov. 5, 2021, in Courtroom 311 at the Kane County Judicial Center for motions and sentencing. Rodriguez faces a sentence of between 3 and 7 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections, or probation.
In addition to the prison term, Rodriguez must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
