Aurora Police are searching for three suspects after they fired an automatic weapon in the air Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Hill Avenue for reports of gunshots. An officer in the area observed a vehicle driving erratically and one of the occupants shooting out of the window with an automatic weapon.
Another officer responding to the call spotted the vehicle and attempted the make a traffic stop, but the vehicle did not stop. Officers pursued the vehicle into the Village of Oswego where the vehicle jumped a median and the officer lost sight of it. Moments later, officers located the empty vehicle at the intersection of Waterbury Circle and Ogden Falls Boulevard in the Ogden Falls neighborhood in Oswego.
APD immediately setup a perimeter around the area and numerous officers from the Oswego Police Department, Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, Kane County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, and other agencies began a large search of the area with officers on the ground, a police airplane, drones, and K-9 units.
Over the course of the search, detectives were given video from a homeowner in the area that showed the suspects running from the area where the vehicle was left. A firearm was also located in the flight path of the offenders.
The suspects are described as:
Subject #1: Black male in his 20’s with black dreadlocks, wearing a white t-shirt, grey sweatpants, and red shoes
Subject #2: Black male in his 20’s with black dreadlocks, wearing a navy sports jersey, black pants/white strip down the side, and dark shoes
Subject #3: Black male in his 20’s with short hair, wearing a white t-shirt, jean shorts, white shoes, and may have a black cap.
Because the suspects were involved in a shots fired incident, they were believed to be armed and for the safety of the community, officers requested for people that live in the Ogden Falls neighborhood to stay inside their homes. Officers also requested a lockdown of Oswego East High School while the search was being conducted. APD was informed that school was not yet back from summer break, but some sports activities were taking place and they were canceled for the evening.
As of 4:00 p.m., the area in and around the Ogden Falls neighborhood had been thoroughly searched, but the subjects had not been located.
This still remains an active and on-going investigation by the Aurora Police Department. Detectives are continuing to follow up on numerous leads in the area. Anyone with home video surveillance, doorbells cameras, or any other device that may have captured the incident or the suspects running is asked to call the Aurora Police Department Investigations Division at 630-256-5500. As always, if you observe any suspicious activity or behavior, call 9-1-1 immediately.
