Daryl Srail, owner of Windy Acres Farm in Geneva, passed away today at the age of 70.
Her death was announced via a statement on the company’s Facebook account:
“It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our mother, Daryl Srail, owner of Windy Acres Farm. Daryl will be remembered as a mother, wife, friend and matriarch of her farm. She loved all whom she met with all of her heart and was a ray of sunshine to everyone. Her love will never end.
“The farm is open today through Monday July 26th, 9am-6pm.
“The farm will be closed for business on Tuesday, July 27th for a Celebration of Life. We will reopen again on Wednesday July 28th at 9am. The farm will remain open, moving forward, with continued operations through the work of her husband (owner), her children and many amazing staff members.
“An outdoor tented, traditional funeral will be held on the Family Farm, Windy Acres Farm, 37w446 Fabyan Pkwy Geneva, Il. Visitation will be held 1pm until 4pm, a service will follow visitation at 4pm. Tuesday, July 27th, 2021. A procession with horse drawn carriage will then take Daryl to her place of rest at Resurrection Cemetery adjacent to the farm. Farm Friends and Family are all welcome.”
Srail was brought up in Elk Grove Village and, in a 2012 interview with local journalist Brendy Shory, said she was doing pretty much what she always wanted.
“I wanted to work in horticulture in floral design, and it pretty much fell into place because this is a 65-acre, family-owned working farm where we grow our own flowers, the fruits, the vegetables.”
When asked by Shory about an interesting fact about her life, Srail responded, “I lived in Europe for eight years, from Copenhagen to Jerusalem. I was a foreign exchange student, and I liked it so much, I just didn’t come home.”
The cause of death is not known at this time.
