The Elgin Police Department reported that they responded to two shooting incidents in the city early this morning, July 5.
At approximately 12:09 a.m., officers responded to the 500 block of Grace St. for a reported shooting. Preliminary information received was that a gathering was taking place and subsequently a juvenile male victim was struck by gunfire.
The victim was transported to an area hospital with what appears at this time to be non-life-threatening injuries.
At 1:33 a.m., officers were notified of an adult male subject, who was now in South Elgin, who stated that he was at the location of Grace St. and left the area noticing later that his vehicle was damaged from gunfire, and that he had also sustained a minor graze wound. The adult male was treated and released on scene by the South Elgin Fire Department.
At approximately 1:09 a.m., officers responded to the 1500 block of Meyer St. for a report of a large gathering where shots were fired. Upon arrival, an adult female victim was located who sustained a minor graze wound. The victim was treated and released on scene by the Elgin Fire Department.
It is unknown at this time if these two incidents are related and detectives from the Special Investigations Group are actively investigating.
