A Batavia Township man was charged with Aggravated Battery after running over his sister-in-law with a car, according to a Kane County Sheriff press release.

The accused, who lives in the 2S300 block of Meadow Drive in Batavia Township, allegedly was involved in a domestic disturbance involving another resident and that resident’s son when the son poured beer over the accused head, prompting the accused to run to the son’s car outside to, apparently, leave the scene to avoid a physical altercation.

The accused ran into the son’s vehicle which had an ajar door and keys in the ignition,  put the vehicle in reverse and began leaving the scene. He was able to reverse for approximately 10-20 feet on the driveway before he drove over his sister-in-law, a 47-year-old resident of Mentone, CA, who had previously been standing in the driveway.

Both the rear and front axles went completely over the woman’s body before the accused brought the vehicle to a stop. The accused was adamant that this was unintentional.

The woman was taken to Northwestern Delnor hospital where it was discovered that she had significant injuries and was later airlifted to Loyola hospital in Chicago.

The man was charged with the following:

    • 720 ILCS 5/12-3.05(a)(1)- AGGRAVATED BATTERY GREAT BODILY HARM- CLASS 3 FELONY due to the injuries sustained by the California woman.
    • 720 ILCS 5/10-3(a)- UNLAWFUL RESTRAINT- CLASS 4 FELONY and
    • 720 ILCS 5/12-3.2(a)(2)- DOMESTIC BATTERY INSULTING PROVOKING NATURE- CLASS A MISDEMEANOR, both from the domestic altercation with the other resident.
