Thursday brought the 27th and 28th incidents of gunfire in Elgin this year, putting the city on a pace to easily exceed 2016’s record of 64 such incidents. In 2020, there were 63 confirmed incidents.
According to Elgin police, at approximately 1:15 a.m. Thursday morning, officers responded to the 0-100 block of Clifford Court for a disturbance occurring between subjects. When officers arrived, additional information was obtained that there were also sounds of gunfire. Upon further investigation officers located evidence of a shooting.
No injuries have been reported from the shooting, and Detectives from the Major Investigations Division are currently investigating the incident.
Later, at approximately 11:42 p.m., police responded to the area of the 1300 block of Crispin Dr. for a report of shots fired. Officers found nothing struck, but evidence of gunfire was recovered.
