On Saturday at approximately 5:39 p.m., officers from the Naperville Police Department responded to several 911 calls of shots fired in the 600 block of South Route 59. Witnesses reported one victim was struck and transported from the scene by unknown people prior to police arrival.
Responding officers secured the area and attempts at locating a suspect were unsuccessful. Officers found that another resident, who possessed a valid Illinois Concealed Carry License, used their personal firearm to shoot at the suspect, causing the suspect flea the area. A short time later, officers responded to an area hospital when it was learned the victim had arrived for treatment of non-life-threatening gunshot injuries.
The incident is under investigation and information has been developed to indicate the victim was likely targeted. A section of the retail property located in the 600 block of South Route 59 was blocked off for several hours while the scene was processed. No other injuries were reported from this incident. It was also learned that there was an un-involved, occupied vehicle that was struck during the gunfire. The lone occupant of that vehicle was not injured.
Suspect description: Male, White or Hispanic, late teen or early 20’s, approximately 5’6”, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark ski mask. It is believed that the suspect fled the area in a yet to be identified vehicle.
