Chicago Steel forwards Josh Doan and Sean Farrell have been named United States Hockey League Co-Forwards of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
The weekly honor is the second of the season for Doan and the third of the year for Farrell as the USHL closed out the regular season this past weekend.
“Both Sean and Josh are very deserving of this recognition,” said Steel head Coach Brock Sheahan. “First, Sean has consistently played at an extremely high level all season long and it was great to see him get rewarded and reach 101 points in this shortened season. Josh has continued to develop and grow as a player and his consistent contributions to our team success are so important. Both Sean and Josh continue to get better and better, and we are so lucky to have them as a part of the Steel Family.”
Doan, a Scottsdale, Ariz., native, scored four goals in a 6-4 victory against the Muskegon Lumberjacks on April 23, the first Steel player to register four goals in a single game since Andy Miele on Nov. 23, 2007.
The Arizona State University commit finished the regular season with the third-most points in the league, tallying 70 (31G, 39) to become just the fifth player in Chicago Steel franchise history to reach the 70-point mark in a single season.
Farrell, selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the fourth round (#124 overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft, capped his record-setting season with four assists in the 6-4 win over Muskegon on April 23 and three helpers in a 5-1 victory the following night.
With seven assists over two games, Farrell finished the regular season with 101 points (29G, 72A) in 53 games, just the second player in USHL history to eclipse the triple-digit mark for points in a season behind Kevin Roy who tallied 104 points (54G, 50A) in 59 games during the 2011-2012 season for the Lincoln Stars.
This season, the Harvard University-bound forward set Steel franchise records for assists in a career (113) and single season (72) as well as career (157) and single-season points (101) in a Steel sweater. Farrell’s 72 helpers this year are the most in a single season in USHL history.
Doan and Farrell’s honors are the 12th and 13th times a Steel player earned Player of the Week honors this season. At least one skater from Chicago earned the weekly honor in 11 of the 25 weeks of the regular season.
