Ouch.
The Chicago Cubs put an old-fashioned whoopin’ on the Milwaukee Brewers this afternoon, crushing the visitors 15-4 behind home runs from Anthony Rizzo (4), Jake Marisnick (1), Javy Baez (6) and Willie Contreras (6). Remarkably, only Contreras had anyone on base (2) at the time of his blast.
The Cubs pounded out 17 hits in total, with little-used Marisnick driving in 5 runs by himself.
The Cubs jumped Milwaukee starter Brett Anderson for 3 runs on his first 11 pitches, after which he left with right knee discomfort. Anderson was relieved by Josh Lindblom, who promptly gave up 8 earned runs over the next 3.2 innings.
Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks (1-2) pitched six innings of two-run ball in his first win of the season. He struck out six and walked one, this after getting shelled by Atlanta in his last appearance.
The two teams play again tomorrow at 1:20 at Wrigley.
